Kate Middleton's 2026 debut at Wimbledon marked a first for the princess in three years.
The Princess of Wales, 44, is a regular at the London tennis tournament due to her love of athletics and role as the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where Wimbledon has been held since the 1870s. On July 2, the royal mom of three visited the line where tennis fans camped out overnight in hopes of scoring tickets before meeting with line volunteers, spending time with the Shine Camera Club and taking in some of the sporting action.
However, her latest outing marked the first time that she has attended the early rounds of the event since 2023. For the past two years, Kate has attended Wimbledon, but she only witnessed the finals — just the men's singles final in 2024 and both the ladies' and the men's finals last year.
Princess Kate spent much of 2024 out of the public eye after announcing her cancer diagnosis that March. However, she did step out for a small number of events amid her treatment in the summer, including Trooping the Colour in June and the men's finals match at Wimbledon the following month.

Princess Kate arrived at the 2024 finals with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, now 11, and sister, Pippa Middleton. As she made her way to her seat in the front row of the Royal Box at Centre Court, the crowd welcomed her with a standing ovation, leaving Kate visibly moved as she gave a smile and a wave.
Last year, the Princess of Wales expanded her Wimbledon appearances, stepping out for both singles finals on consecutive days. While she attended the women's final solo, Prince William, Princess Charlotte and Prince George were all on hand for the gentlemen's match.

Despite announcing that she was in remission in early 2025, the Princess of Wales has candidly opened up about the "difficult" period that comes after treatment.
"You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment's done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult," she said during a July 2025 visit to Colchester Hospital.

"You're not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to," the royal continued. "And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable."

Princess Kate has slowly resumed a fuller schedule of royal duties. In May, she undertook her first international work trip since her cancer diagnosis, traveling to Italy to learn about their work with early childhood development.
"[This visit] is an important step in the princess’s recovery journey. She takes great joy from this work,” a royal aide said at the time. “I think it is only right that her first international trip since her illness is one that is focused on an issue that is committed to championing for decades to come and is a real issue that she wants to shine a spotlight on.”

Over the weekend, Princess Kate took on the Three Peaks Challenge (which involves climbing the highest mountains in the U.K. — Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales — in 24 hours) in an effort to spotlight life beyond cancer and support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which helped in her own treatment.
"Lots of people have asked me why I'm doing this challenge, and partly, it's personal. I'm so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills. But more importantly, it's to give something back and acknowledge all the incredible work going on up and down this country," she said in a message.
"I have met some incredible people, those people who are living with and beyond cancer, and I know personally how difficult that journey is," Kate continued. "And I really wanted to use this opportunity as my way of contributing to all the wonderful work that's going on and, in particular, to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an organization very dear to me, who do extraordinary work supporting those living with and beyond the disease."
