Joel Kim Booster reveals what he's focused on as he finalizes the details for his upcoming wedding to John-Michael Sudsina

The comedian says that there's a "trifecta of a good party" they're concerned about, which is more important than things like "napkins on the table"

The couple is planning to tie the knot over New Year's in San Francisco

With his wedding day quickly approaching, Joel Kim Booster remains calm as he finalizes the key details for the upcoming ceremony and reception. The Fire Island star and John-Michael Sudsina are set to tie the knot over New Year's in San Francisco.

While speaking to PEOPLE on Dec. 4, the comedian, 37, shared what he and Sudsina were most focused on as they put the finishing touches on their wedding.

"We're very concerned about curating a vibe," Booster says, explaining that "the reason we're having a wedding is because we wanted to throw a party for all our friends after they watch us say these vows and our two worlds coming together, so getting both of our worlds in one room is really special."

"So, to making sure that everyone is having a good time is paramount for us, which is why we made sure that the big focuses of our wedding weren't, like, the napkins on the table, but the food that we chose," the actor continues, adding that they didn't want to worry about details that "none of your guests will notice." Instead, "the three areas that we really put a lot of our time and energy into were the music curation, food and alcohol, which I think are the trifecta of a good party."

Despite that, "I actually feel very calm," he says. "I'm not really worried about it at all right now."

If there is anyone who may be feeling that nervous energy, it might be Booster's famous groomsmen who have been tasked with giving a toast during the reception.

In June, he told PEOPLE that Las Culturistas podcast co-hosts and friends Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers were going to be in the wedding party, revealing, "They will be giving a joint toast, actually." He added at the time, "I set them off on that project and I have no idea what it will be, but I'm sure it will be insane either way."

A few months later, in November, the two actors, both 35, joked with PEOPLE that they hadn't even started planning their speech yet. "I'll tell you what we're not excited about — which we haven't even thought about — is that we're supposed to give a joint toast," Rogers admitted, noting that it was "something that's on our list" to prepare.

The "Have You Heard of Christmas?" singer then revealed how Fire Island, which was adapted from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice by Booster and also starred Rogers and Yang, mirrored his friend's real-life courtship with Sudsina.

After recently rewatching it with his boyfriend, Below Deck star Fraser Olender, Rogers said, "I was just thinking about how that film about a group of friends who are together is very much based on our real friendships. And then it's about someone who wants to meet a boyfriend on vacation. And that idea of having a vacation boyfriend and lugging him back to the real world actually happened to Joel."

He added, "It was just a really lovely reminder, because we shot that movie over four years ago and to just know that was right after [Joel] had met [John-Michael] and that they're getting married now and that we're all gonna be there, it's just a very, very special thing. I'm very excited for him."

"John-Michael is such a lovely person," Rogers continued, sharing that "we all had such a fun time together in New Orleans celebrating their bachelor weekends."
