Chelsea Handler claims the L.A. home she bought from RFK Jr. and Cheryl Hines was left in an unlivable condition when she purchased it
Handler says the home was deemed “toxic” during inspection and noted she still hasn't moved in nearly five years after the purcahse

Chelsea Handler is not holding back when it comes to the allegedly unlivable state she claims Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cheryl Hines left their L.A. home in when she purchased it from them.
In a March 5 episode of her Dear Chelsea podcast, the comedian, 51, slammed the couple for selling her a home that she claims was in a “toxic” condition, PEOPLE previously reported. During the episode, she alleged the situation was so terrible that she still hasn’t moved into the house five years after making the purchase.
“I bought RFK Jr.’s house in Los Angeles five years ago. I did not know I was buying it from him. It was anonymous,” she said, later clarifying that they both worked through trusts and the sale was done in “private.”

“I bought his house from him and Cheryl Hines,” she continued. “I still have not lived in this house. That's how f---ed up this house was.”
She then references RFK Jr.'s position as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to further describe how shocked she was at the state in which he and the Curb Your Enthusiasm actress allegedly left the home.
“The idea that this guy is in charge of the health of our country, when he didn’t even have a proper foundation at his house,” she claimed.
When her home was inspected after she purchased it, she claims they “opened up the house” and told her, "‘This house is the most toxic environment. You cannot live here for at least two years.’”
She continued, “I’m not exaggerating. It was a disaster, and I didn't know it going in because everything was, you know, under wraps."

This is not the first time Handler has been open about some of her problematic real estate purchases.

During an interview with MarketWatch published in August 2025, Handler said she owns “a lot of real estate” because the best financial advice someone gave her was to invest in property. She also noted that her “biggest money mistake” came from one of her previous purchases.
“Converting a five-bedroom house into a two-bedroom house so that my family wouldn’t visit me for too long. That was a big financial mistake,” she said. “It made the house less valuable. I had to turn the two bedrooms back into five bedrooms to sell it.”
She didn’t clarify which property she experienced this issue with, however, and the former talk show host has some impressive real estate investments under her belt.
In 2021, she sold her longtime L.A. home for $10.4 million, PEOPLE previously reported. At the time, she hilariously announced the sale of the six-bedroom, six-bathroom abode in an Instagram video that featured the star naked and smoking in her hot tub.
"The new Chelsea just sold this house because the old Chelsea was getting a wee-bit too comfortable," she captioned the video. "The old Chelsea wouldn't have talked about herself in the third person and the new Chelsea doesn't want to either."

Before selling the property, she put her residence on display in a home tour with Architectural Digest back in December 2019. At the time, she highlighted some of the design choices and upgrades she made to the property.
"I've lived here since I think 2010 is what I've been told. It's my first house that I've ever bought," she said during the video. "There was just a lot of closed-off spaces and I wanted open spaces and I wanted indoor-outdoor living because why else are we living in California if we don't get all of those things."
The sale of her longtime abode came the same year she purchased her “disaster” home from RFK Jr. and Hines for $5.9 million in 2021, per realtor.com.
