Just in time for Father's Day, a new survey asked Americans to name the greatest movie dads of all time — and the results include everything from devoted family men to action heroes and even a notorious mob boss.
According to a survey conducted by Roku, some of the most beloved fathers in movie history continue to resonate with audiences decades after they first appeared on screen.
While the list includes a few expected choices, it also proves there's no single blueprint for what makes a great movie dad.
America's Favorite Movie Dads
According to Roku's survey, these are America's top movie dads:
Daniel Hillard (Mrs. Doubtfire)
George Banks (Father of the Bride)
Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird)
Vito Corleone (The Godfather)
Bryan Mills (Taken)
The list includes everything from lovable family men to action heroes — and even a mob boss.
Why These Dads Still Stand Out
Leading the list is Daniel Hillard, Robin Williams' unforgettable character in Mrs. Doubtfire.
Hillard remains one of the most beloved fathers in movie history thanks to the extraordinary lengths he went to just to spend time with his children.

George Banks, played by Steve Martin, from Father of the Bride, also earned a spot thanks to his relatable struggles as a dad learning to let go as his daughter grew up.

Meanwhile, Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) from To Kill a Mockingbird continues to be viewed as one of the most admirable fathers ever portrayed on screen, thanks to his unwavering sense of justice, integrity, and compassion.
Not Your Typical Movie Dads
The list also includes a pair of more unconventional choices.
Vito Corleone, famously played by Marlon Brando, from The Godfather, earned recognition for his fierce loyalty to family, even if his profession made him a less-than-traditional role model.

Bryan Mills fromTaken rounds out the list. Liam Neeson's character famously used his "very particular set of skills" to rescue his daughter, cementing his place as one of the most memorable action-movie dads ever.
What Makes a Great Movie Dad?
The dads on Roku's list couldn't be more different, but they all share one thing in common: a willingness to do whatever it takes for their children.
Whether that means offering life lessons, struggling to let go, protecting the family business, or crossing continents to save a daughter, these characters have left a lasting mark on movie audiences and helped define fatherhood on the big screen.
