Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette will air its final episode on Thursday, March 26.
The finale will likely explore the tragic deaths of JFK Jr., Carolyn Bessette, and Lauren Bessette.
Actress Constance Zimmer is calling it a "very, very difficult" episode.
Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette has proven to be a major hit for FX, though not without controversy.
The limited series, produced by Ryan Murphy, has drawn ample criticism from the Kennedy family (and others) in its exploration of the relationship between political scion John F. Kennedy Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) and fashion maven Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon).
Jack Schlossberg, JFK Jr.'s nephew, has called the series a "grotesque display," while actress Daryl Hannah, a former girlfriend of JFK Jr.'s, penned a New York Times op-ed taking issue with how the show presents her. "Real names are not fictional tools. They belong to real lives," she wrote.
Still, fascination with the series has only grown since its premiere on Feb. 12. According to TheWrap, Love Story is FX's most-watched limited series ever on Disney+ and Hulu, with viewership numbers rising 51% between episodes 1 and 5.
With the much-anticipated finale looming, you may be curious how to watch it and what to expect. Below, we have the answers.

Anyone familiar with the arc of JFK Jr. and Carolyn's lives knows that the pair died in a 1999 plane crash alongside Bessette's sister, Lauren (here portrayed by Sydney Lemmon).
Considering an early moment in the show noted the crash (and episode 8 jumps forward in time to the days before it), it's safe to assume the season will explore the tragedy.
JFK Jr. was piloting the Piper Saratoga aircraft, which crashed on July 16, 1999, during a flight from New Jersey to Martha's Vineyard, Mass. There, they planned to drop off Lauren before flying to Cape Cod for the wedding of Rory Kennedy. JFK Jr.'s inexperience flying at night, coupled with a "haze" in the air, were cited as the causes of the crash.
Despite extensive search efforts, the downed aircraft wasn't found until July 20. The bodies of JFK Jr., Carolyn, and Lauren were recovered the following day, and it was later determined they died on impact.

What are people saying about the Love Story finale?

Love Story's cast and creative team have been tight-lipped about the finale, but actress Constance Zimmer, who plays Carolyn's mother Ann Freeman, recently raised eyebrows by describing it as "very, very difficult for everybody to watch."
Speaking with Decider, Zimmer hinted at the tragedy to come. "I think we all know what's coming. It's just how we're telling it," she said.
She went on to detail the difficulties of playing a real-life figure who's experienced a horrific loss. "That's the biggest thing you learn as an actor, is to never play the end, right?" she said. "We read scripts all the time, we know what's coming and our job is to not show that. So it is difficult because it's a different emotion."
She elaborated, "Because if I had that emotion — if I had that in my speech, let's say that emotion would be far greater and far bigger — so you can't. It's almost like you get that information and then it's got to go away. You can't think about it."
For Zimmer, the finale serves as a kind of catharsis. "It's for all of us to feel all the things that we have been feeling watching the show, and when everything happened, actually in real time back then."

Others have less confidence in the show to meaningfully portray the deaths of JFK Jr. and the Bessette sisters.
Take, for example, The Real Housewives of New York star Carole Radziwill, who knew JFK Jr. and Bessette well during her marriage to the late Anthony Radziwill, JFK Jr.'s best friend. In a February 2026 post on her Substack, she wrote about the ways in which real lives can be "repurposed, circulated out of context and beyond our control" when they're turned into stories.
"Sitting here now, we know how it ended," she said of JFK Jr. and Carolyn's marriage. "And yet the story keeps being told. Reinvented. Embroidered. Filled with details no one could possibly know, by people who weren’t there and don’t care about the truth. We think we own our stories. We don’t. Not in life, and certainly not in death."
