- Ryan Murphy's *Love Story *chronicles John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's relationship.

- It briefly explores JFK Jr.'s on-and-off romance with actress Daryl Hannah.

- Hannah has insisted that much of her portrayal on the show is inaccurate.

The FX series *Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette* is already facing criticism from members of the Kennedy family. Now, Daryl Hannah, JFK Jr.'s former girlfriend, is adding her voice to the conversation.

In a pointed essay for *The New York Times*, the actress slammed the series for its misleading depiction of her life and relationships. She described the portrayal as not only inaccurate but sensationalized, reducing a real person to a caricature for the sake of storytelling.

"A real, living person is not a narrative device," Hannah writes, adding that *Love Story *has had real-life consequences on her reputation. "In the weeks since the series aired, I have received many hostile and even threatening messages from viewers who seem to believe the portrayal is factual."

Later in the essay, Hannah addresses specific scenes and claims in the series that are entirely false. Reps for FX and *Love Story* declined to comment when reached by *.*

Below, we break down what the actress says *Love Story *got wrong about her.**

Hannah denies hosting “cocaine-fueled parties”

In episode 2 of *Love Story*, JFK Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) returns home from an event to find Hannah (Dree Hemingway) hosting a small party with friends. He spots a silver platter on the coffee table, picks it up, and takes it away to clean it after it's shown covered in cocaine.

Hannah follows him and refers to the platter as "Kennedy memorabilia," but JFK Jr. corrects her: "These are not baseball cards; they're family heirlooms."

Instead of apologizing, Hannah asks if he can stay and hang out with her and her friends for a bit. He says he's exhausted, and the conversation escalates into an argument. JFK Jr. says he doesn't know any of her friends, and she retorts that's because he doesn't make any effort to get to know them. He responds sarcastically, "I'm sorry, why don't we get Shandra over here and we can blow some lines off my dad's inaugural address?"

In her* Times *essay, Hannah refutes the scene. "The actions and behaviors attributed to me are untrue," she says. "I have never used cocaine in my life or hosted cocaine-fueled parties. … I have never desecrated any family heirloom or intruded upon anyone's private memorial."

She denies planting stories in the press about an engagement to JFK Jr.

Toward the end of episode 2, JFK Jr. and Hannah meet his family for dinner, but his mother, Jackie Kennedy Onassis (Naomi Watts), pretends to be sick to avoid seeing Hannah.

Taking it as a sign that Jackie doesn't like her, Hannah leaves. JFK Jr. follows her home and finds her packing. There, another argument unfolds, this time over Hannah's friends supposedly leaking to the press that they would soon be getting engaged.

"The convenient details on your wedding dress," JFK Jr. says. "What, did you think you'd get through to me via the tabloids?"

The real Hannah flatly denies that any of this ever happened. "I have never planted any story in the press," she writes in her essay. She also notes that she has "never pressured anyone into marriage," countering another dramatized moment on *Love Story*.

On the show, Hannah insists that she can't wait around for JFK Jr. anymore. "If you wanted to marry me, you would have."

Hannah goes on to claim that no one will love him the way she does, nor will they be able to tolerate the scrutiny of the tabloids and his family. She frames the public attention on their relationship as proof of their strong connection and implies that her career struggles are conveniently making room for her to focus more on JFK Jr.**

She asserts she “never compared Jacqueline Onassis’ death to a dog’s”

Episode 3 of *Love Story *depicts Jackie's death and shows her wake, where Hannah shows up despite no longer being with JFK Jr. She greets him before giving him space, but they reconnect a little later.

Hannah asks how he's holding up, and he admits he hasn't had much time to process his mother's passing. The show then takes a jarring turn when Hannah compares Jackie's death to losing her dog, Hank.

"Grief is weird that way. It kind of sneaks up on you and all you can do is succumb to it, you know, like when I lost Hank. I mean, yes, he was a dog, but he was also, like, my child," she says. JFK Jr. looks uncomfortable and walks off to check on his sister, Caroline (Grace Gummer).

Hannah claims in her *Times *essay that the scene is entirely fabricated. "I never compared Jacqueline Onassis' death to a dog's," she writes.

"It's appalling to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show," she continues. "These are not creative embellishments of personality. They are assertions about conduct — and they are false."**
