Warren Moon makes compelling case against Eagles trading A.J. Brown

The A.J. Brown trade chatter refuses to go away, but not everyone believes the Philadelphia Eagles would be wise to entertain the idea. Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon recently appeared on Up & Adams and offered a fairly straightforward opinion on the ongoing speculation.

In short? He doesn’t think trading Brown makes much sense, and honestly, though most believe his exit is a matter of 'when' not 'if', Moon's reasoning is hard to dismiss.

There's a lot to unpack there. Most of it is intriguing. Brown isn’t simply another talented wide receiver on Philadelphia’s roster. He has been one of the offense’s defining pieces since he arrived in 2022.

He's a physical mismatch that changes games. He dictates coverage, often drawing coverage away from other playmakers, and though he hasn't been targeted as often as he would like, he makes life significantly easier for Jalen Hurts.

It's hard to argue with Warren Moon's logic, but Eagles fans shouldn't expect a sudden change of expected plans.

Brown is one of those trusted playmakers who can win one-on-one battles and erase imperfect throws when engaged. Moon’s larger point centered around something many Eagles fans already understand.

Championship-caliber teams don’t casually move elite offensive weapons unless the return dramatically outweighs the immediate loss. That’s a dangerous gamble. Yes, the Eagles have younger pass catchers. Yes, they’ve invested in offensive weapons elsewhere. Yes, Howie Roseman is always willing to listen if value presents itself, but replacing A.J. Brown isn’t as simple as plugging another name into the lineup.

Few receivers combine his size, physicality, route-running precision, and big-game reliability. Even fewer already have established chemistry with Hurts. That’s why this debate remains so polarizing. On paper, a blockbuster return might look tempting. In reality, moving a player of Brown’s caliber often creates a void far harder to fill than expected. Moon’s perspective carries weight because he understands offensive ecosystems.

Quarterbacks need continuity. Elite offenses need dependable stars. Super Bowl windows don’t stay open forever. Trading Brown would represent far more than a flashy roster move.

Trading Brown would fundamentally alter the offense’s identity, and unless Philadelphia is absolutely convinced the return changes the franchise’s future for the better, Moon appears to believe the smarter play is obvious. Sometimes the best move a contender can make is resisting the temptation to get too clever. Still, everyone should expect Brown to suit up for another team in 2026 unless something changes dramatically.
