The cofounder of video game giant Ubisoft, the company behind hit titles such as Assassin's Creed, died in a plane crash.
Claude Guillemot was reportedly at the controls of a Cessna 421 aircraft when it went down in La Baule, Loire-Atlantique, in western France. The tragedy unfolded on Friday afternoon, June 19. Guillemot, 69, served as the company's deputy managing director responsible for operations.
French newspaper Le Figaro reports that the light aircraft came down in a wheat field near the local airfield, with the second fatality identified as Marc Guillet, a flight instructor, reports Mirror UK.

Ubisoft released a statement saying: "[We] learned with great sadness of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the Group and President of Guillemot Corporation, in an accident."

"Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. No further communication will be made at this stage."

Guillemot was a member of the La Baule flying club and had been due to attend an aviation event that weekend.
The Cessna departed at around 5:25 p.m. local time and went down at approximately 5:50 p.m. as it approached the La Baule airfield.

Ubisoft was established by Guillemot and his four brothers in 1986 in France, growing to become one of the world's leading video game developers.
Along with Assassin's Creed, the company's most celebrated titles include Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, Far Cry and Just Dance.
He is survived by his four brothers
Guillemot also served as chief executive officer of Guillemot Corporation, a company that specializes in designing and manufacturing interactive entertainment hardware and accessories.
He is survived by his four brothers — Yves, Gérard, Michel, and Christian.
