"You just gotta own it. You gotta have some cojones," he told podcast listeners
The Chiefs' star has some tips for asking out a girl.
Travis Kelce got candid on a special hotline episode of his and brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, when a caller asked them for advice on asking a girl on a date.
“I think first you gotta figure out what do you like about her?” Travis, 36, questioned. “You like the way she looks? She likes the way she dresses? You like how funny she is? You like like how kind she is?”
Once the suitor in question determines that, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end suggested he or she “compliment” their favorite thing about the girl.
“That will get you in the door or at least,” he mused. “You gauge how she reacts to that and then that gives you a better understanding of whether or not she would be willing to go out with you. But that's always a good conversation starter to let someone know that you like them.”

Jason, 38, jokingly gave the caller “the old Ed Kelce tip-off,” joking that their dad would suggest the caller “find her unattractive friend and you befriend her and you start making her feel like she’s interested.”
But Travis quickly shot this suggestion down calling it “bogus.”
“Do not listen to that advice. That is the 1950s way of dating,” Travis said.

Jason believes the way to move forward is much simpler, saying, “Here's what you do, you ask her out.”
Travis agreed, adding, “Yeah, there's no other way around it other than you just gotta just gotta do it, man. You just gotta own it. You gotta have some cojones. What's the worst she's gonna say? No?”
But Travis, who announced his engagement to Taylor Swift in August 2025, also suggested the caller “have something in the back pocket,” when asking the girl out.
“Have a conversation starter and then have a nice segue into maybe hanging out at the movies or at the mall or wherever your destination is,” Travis said. “You gotta have a destination where you wanna take her. That's enticing. And then, yeah, go from there, bud.”

Ultimately, Travis joked, “If you're asking advice from us, you better figure it out on your own.”
Jason said there was “no trick” when it came to asking a girl out, telling the caller “if you like the girl, say, ‘Hey, I was thinking about seeing this movie. Would you like to go see it with me?’ and then see what happens.”
Travis famously shot his shot with Swift in 2023 when he attended her Eras tour show and later voiced how upset he was that he didn’t get the opportunity to meet Swift and give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
The podcast comment led to their eventual romance and engagement.
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift told Time magazine in Dec. 2023. “We started hanging out right after that.”
