The Undertaker believes a WWE WrestleMania match against Sting should have happened.
For years, fans hoped to see The Undertaker and Sting finally square off on WWE’s grandest stage after “The Icon” signed with WWE in 2014. However, the dream match never materialized, with Sting instead facing Triple H at WrestleMania 31.
During a recent episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker answered fan questions and admitted he thought the match would become a reality once Sting arrived in WWE. Instead, he said Vince McMahon never wanted to book it.
“Obviously, the people had already been clamoring for that match for a long time. It seems like a no-brainer. Why on earth would you not do that? But, for whatever reason, Vince did not see it, didn’t like it, didn’t want it.
“I was like, ‘Man, this is a home run. This is an easy main event for a pay-per-view.’ But I don’t really have an answer. I never really had an in-depth conversation with Vince about why he didn’t want to do it.”
The Undertaker said he never received a clear explanation from McMahon, despite believing the bout would have been an obvious attraction.
The Undertaker explains why a WrestleMania match against Sting remains one of WWE’s biggest missed opportunities
The WWE Hall of Famer recalled later speaking with Sting after WrestleMania, where the match could have taken place, noting that both men were left wondering why it never happened.

“I remember running into Sting after the WrestleMania that we didn’t work. We were on the same plane together talking. I was like, ‘I don’t know. This is beyond me. I don’t know why.’
“It is what it is. I don’t have any regrets. It wasn’t my decision. But, my goodness, I would’ve loved to have that match. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Looking back, The Undertaker said the showdown remains one of WWE’s biggest missed opportunities, believing the clash between the two legendary characters would have been a massive success.
“I think Sting, that’s probably gotta be the biggest miss of a WrestleMania. Those two characters, that would’ve done some incredible business… I’m sorry. I don’t know. It wasn’t me. It wasn’t me.”
