Being a royal heir to the throne is a little easier with friends who can relate.
Princess Elisabeth of Belgium graduated from Harvard University this week, celebrating the completion of her two-year master's degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
Marking the milestone, the 24-year-old future queen gave her first major interview to journalist Wim Dehandschutter for the Dutch-language newspaper HNL. In addition to speaking about her time as a Harvard student and her royal destiny, she shared more about her bond with other young royals in a similar position.
After Princess Catharina-Amalia, the 22-year-old future queen of the Netherlands, told the journalist that she's in a private WhatsApp group with fellow heirs Princess Elisabeth and Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, Elisabeth shared more about their friendship.
“We’ve known each other for a long time and see each other occasionally at events," Princess Elisabeth said in the interview.
"In my generation, there are several women. You see a similar shift in other monarchies," she added. "We are all in the same situation. It’s a hurdle we will face together.”

When she accedes to the throne after her father, King Philippe, as expected, Princess Elisabeth will make history as Belgium's first female monarch. A new act of succession in the nation introducing absolute primogeniture was put into effect 10 years before her birth, meaning her place in the line of succession wasn't affected due to the birth of her two younger brothers.
"It is indeed a first, making it historic. It does mean I don’t have an example of a Belgian reigning queen to look up to. A challenge," she said, per HNL. "But my gender isn’t the only thing that defines me.”
When Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, now 22, turned 18 in 2022, both Princess Amalia and Princess Elisabeth were there to mark the occasion. Wearing tiaras, the trio posed for an epic portrait that also included Princess Estelle of Sweden, who is second in the line of succession behind her grandfather and mother, and Prince Charles of Luxembourg, who is expected to become Grand Duke one day.

Princess Elisabeth also shared in the new interview what it was like to know the royal destiny ahead of her.
"I’m actually happy knowing what I’ll be doing for the rest of my life," she said. "Many people live in uncertainty, not knowing where they are headed. There is a certain beauty in knowing: this is my path, and it leads there."
