Nick Jonas wanted to star in this hit Disney film but ‘bombed’ the audition

Nick Jones has revealed that he wanted to play Kristoff in the hit Disney film Frozen but “bombed” his audition.

The 33-year-old rose to fame as part of the American pop band the Jonas Brothers, alongside his siblings Kevin and Joe.

Jonas made the revelation during an appearance from Frozen stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad on the brothers’ Hey Jonas! podcast.

“I went in for Kristoff. I went in and they said, ‘OK, what are you going to be singing today?,” the actor said.

“I said, ‘Oh, I don’t know.’ They said, ‘What do you mean you don’t know?’ They’re like, ‘Do you have your sheet music?’ And I said, ‘No, no one told me I had.…,’ and so I just said, ‘Can you play something from,’ I don’t know what I said, some musical theatre song. And I bombed the audition. It was terrible.”

Kristen Bell, who voices Anna in the fantasy films, replied: “That must have been why you didn’t get it.”

Glee star Jonathan Groff was eventually cast in the role, appearing in the 2013 film, Frozen 2and the franchise’s short films.

Josh Gad, who portrays the loveable snowman Olaf, joked: “Look, I’ll say it here. You have such better chemistry with Kristen than Groff.”

Jonas replied playfully: “I love Jonathan Groff, but I do think it would have been better to cast me.”

When asked by his brother Kevin whether he worked with the team he was with at the time again, Jonas said: “I’ve changed agencies three times since then.”

Even though Jonas did not secure the role, the actor said he “really enjoyed” the film.

The 2013 fantasy film made £885 million worldwide at the box office, while Frozen 2 grossed £1 billion.

Jonas has appeared in other Disney productions, most notably the Camp Rock franchise as Nate Gray alongside his brothers and singer Demi Lovato.

A third instalment in the Camp Rock franchise is now available to stream on Disney+.
