While talks of a *Little House on the Prairie *reboot have been floating around for years, it wasn't until January 2025 that Netflix confirmed they were bringing Laura Ingalls Wilder's semi-autobiographical books to life in a brand new series.

Wilder's beloved *Little House *stories have been adapted many times, most notably in the classic TV series *Little House on the Prairie*. Running from 1974 to 1983, the show starred Michael Landon, Melissa Gilbert, and Karen Grassle.

Now, Netflix is ready to roll out the long-awaited  *Little House on the Prairie *reboot. Here's everything we know so far, including the cast and release date.

What is *Little House on the Prairie *about?

Netflix calls *Little House* season 1 as a "fresh adaptation" of Wilder's beloved books, which have sold millions of copies worldwide and became a staple of American literature. The original eight novels, written in the 1930s and 1940s along with a posthumous ninth published in 1971, have shaped generations of readers.

According to the synopsis, the highly-anticipated *Little House *reboot will weave a story that's "part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West," while offering viewers a "kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier."

In a 2025 interview with **, Melissa Gilbert voiced her support for the upcoming adaptation. "I think there's room in the *Little House* universe for all different kinds of stories to be told — just like there was always room in the *Little Women* universe to keep retelling that story," she said.

Who’s in the Little House of the Prairie cast?

Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine is clearly excited about the cast of the *Little House *reboot, telling Tudum,"I am absolutely thrilled with the brilliant cast we have assembled. Each one of them brings something special to the *Little House* universe and will help make this story come alive for a whole new generation."

Alice Halsey will star as Laura Ingalls on the *Little House *reboot. Halsey made her acting debut on the Emmy-nominated miniseries *Lessons in Chemistry *(2023) and followed it up with a role on *Days of Our Lives *in 2025.

"I love all of the *Little House* books so much, and I’m so excited and grateful to get to bring Laura to life!" Halsey shared on Instagram in May. "Thank you so much to the *Little House* creative team for putting your faith in me."

The rest of the Ingalls family includes Luke Bracey (*Hacksaw Ridge*, *Elvis*) as Laura's father Charles, Crosby Fitzgerald (*Palm Royale*) as her mother Caroline, and Skywalker Hughes (*Ordinary Angels*) as Laura's older sister Mary.

The cast also features Jocko Sims (*New Amsterdam*) as Dr. George Tann, the physician who treated the family during a malaria outbreak in Kansas, and Warren Christie (*October Road*) as John Edwards, a "Civil War veteran from Tennessee," per Netflix.

Additional cast members include Meegwun Fairbrother (*Burden of Truth*) as Mitchell, a farmer with "the most impressive homestead in the county"; Alyssa Wapanatǎhk (*Peter Pan & Wendy*) as his wife White Sun; Wren Zhawenim Gotts (*Echo*) as their daughter Good Eagle; and Xander Cole as Little Puma, White Sun's younger brother.

Yes, more *Little House *is on the way. On Tuesday, March 3, Netflix announced that they've already picked up the series for season 2.

"I'm incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive," Sonnenshine told Tudum. "We can't wait to share this new adaptation of the *Little House* books with the world, and we're thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story."

Jinny Howe, Netflix's head of U.S. and Canada scripted series, added, "We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of *Little House on the Prairie* for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut.
