Celebrity “biohacker” and central subject of Netflix’s 2025 documentary *Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever,* Bryan Johnson, has revealed a surprising health update on his journey to prevent aging.
The 48-year-old announced Tuesday on his Instagram profile that he was recently diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis — the impact of which he summarized as: “My stomach is eating itself.”
But, instead of fearing the disease, Johnson told his followers that it makes him “excited” because a “massive blood draw” led to him “sequencing 1 million” of his immune cells in order to find a suitable treatment for the admittedly incurable disease.
“We are going to try to solve that,” Johnson said, though he has drawn criticism for controversial practices in the past, including exchanging plasma between intergenerational family lines.
He said that he hopes to make his findings “reproducible” for others, so that he can help “millions of people” with autoimmune conditions.****Johnson, who was diagnosed with a separate autoimmune hypothyroidism at age 21, said that his existing condition influenced the current stomach issue, and that “a recent bidirectional endoscopy revealed” the progression.

“It’s the same underlying autoimmune tendency I’ve lived with since 21, now showing up in my stomach,” he said. “I’ve been so touched by all the thoughtful messages I’ve received over the past few days. I’m excited to tackle this diagnosis and share all my findings with you.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, autoimmune gastritis causes inflammation of the stomach lining, and is “most often the result of infection with the same bacterium that causes most stomach ulcers or the regular use of certain pain relievers.”**
Per the Global Autoimmune Institute, there is currently no approved cure for the condition, but treatment options are available.
In his 2025 Netflix doc, Johnson opened up about spending millions of dollars perfecting his “protocol,” which he called his repeated process to reverse aging.
