Every awards season comes with a number of surprises and tonight’s 2026 Actor Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards) were no exception. Michael B. Jordan took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at this year's ceremony for his dual portrayal of twins Stack and Smoke in the southern vampire blockbuster, Sinners. Revered actor Viola Davis presented the award and burst out in joy when she announced Jordan’s name as the winner of the category. The actor beat out peers including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke (who seemed absolutely ecstatic for Jordan’s win), Jesse Plemons, and this season’s favored winner, Timothée Chalamet, in the stacked category.

"I wasn’t expecting this at all," Jordan began his speech, visibly moved by the recognition. "I’m so honored and privileged to be nominated in this category with people and actors and humans that I love and I love their work and I love what they contribute to our craft."

Jordan continued, looking back at his years as a working actor and the support he received from his family in order to be where he is now as a certified movie star.

"That kid from New Jersey is standing here right now. Mom, thank you for driving me back and forth to New York when we didn’t have money for the Holland Tunnel, or when we were looking for gas money and parking spaces," he shared. "And I want to thank Ryan Coogler, for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do and be fearless and create a safe space where we could find truth."

With Sinners also taking home the biggest award of the night with Best Cast in a Motion Picture, tonight’s Actor Awards provided a glimpse into what Jordan, Coogler, and the film may experience in a few weeks at this year’s Academy Awards, which will take place on March 15. Already Sinners has made history by becoming the most Oscar-nominated film of all time, ousting legendary blockbusters like Titanic, All About Eve, and La La Land for the new top spot.
