John Stamos learned the hard way: broken hearts don't mend easily.

The *Full House *star recently reflected on his 2005 divorce from Rebecca Romijn. During a conversation about divorces on the June 10 episode of the *Really Good Podcast*, Stamos noted, "I had one. It broke my heart."

Host Bobbi Althoff, future star of the *Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County*, prompted Stamos to explain himself, and his reasoning was simple. "Because I didn't want to get divorced. She wanted to. It took me a long time to get over it."

Stamos and Romijn met at the 1994 Victoria's Secret fashion show, where the former attended as a spectator alongside *Full House *wife Lori Loughlin, and where the latter walked as a model, he revealed in his 2023 memoir, *If You Would Have Told Me*.

They became a couple, dating for four years before their marriage in 1998. Their relationship ended in divorce in 2005, an event Stamos still feels the sting of. Jerry O'Connell, whom Romijn married in 2007, noted that things got "awkward" in their household when their daughters would "come out for breakfast and go, 'Hey mom, your ex has a book out and called you the devil. What are your thoughts?'"

For her part, Romijn said she was "incredibly shocked" by the memoir. But in the years since, things have cooled. Stamos married actress Caitlin McHugh in 2018, the same year their son was born. The actor also encountered O'Connell for the first time and even snapped a photo with him after a pleasant interaction.

"She has a nice life. She married another guy. She has kids. They're doing great," Stamos told Althoff. "I met him recently. It was very interesting. He was very sweet. He was very nice... We were at a party together, and he came over, and he was super nice. He couldn't have been sweeter. He was very, very funny and very charming."
