Jesse Metcalfe revisited his Desperate Housewives character in a viral Hint water video, sparking nostalgic crushes among fans

Metcalfe said the video's popularity shows continued interest in Desperate Housewives and his early 2000s projects

The actor said he is very interested in creating a sequel for John Tucker Must Die

Jesse Metcalfe is revisiting his Desperate Housewivesdays — and the internet is noticing.

The actor partnered with Hint to create a gardening thirst trap video inspired by his character in the early 2000s show, reigniting online crushes. He shared with PEOPLE what it means to him that his role still resonates with fans.

In season one of Desperate Housewives, which premiered in 2004, Metcalfe played John Rowland, a teenage gardener involved in an affair with Eva Longoria's Gabrielle Solis.

In his May 13, 2026 thirst trap video, he returns to his roots, watering and pruning plants and drinking gulps of Hint water while shirtless.

"Are you looking at me or this tasty hydration?" Metcalfe captioned the post.

The comments section showed nostalgic viewers taken back to the early 2000s.

"Somehow I'm back on wisteria lane and in need of a water," one commenter wrote.

"Immediately transported back to 2004 and watching John on DH🤭," another said.

For Metcalfe, "playing off of the nostalgia of the moment and my sort of iconic character from Desperate Housewives made sense."

"I think the fact that the video has kind of gone viral and people are connecting with the content means there's still an appetite for Desperate Housewives, and [it shows that] that show and particularly, you know, my character on that show are still pretty relevant," he said.

He said that the connection of fans to the video shows how people find comfort in nostalgia.

"It's pretty cool to have been a part of two iconic projects in both Desperate Housewives and John Tucker Must Die," he said of another 2000s project he starred in.

"Both of those projects are having their 20 year anniversaries right around this time, so it's surprising at times that people still care about a series and a movie and particularly my characters in both of those projects so many years later, but it's flattering at the same time," he said.

"It's sort of proof that a sequel possibly to John Tucker Must Die would work and that people would want to see that," he added.

The actor added that he has been "very vocal" about being interested in being part of a sequel to the 2006 film, which also featured Sophia Bush, Brittany Snow, Arielle Kebbel, Ashanti and Penn Badgley. He added that other cast members are interested too.

"I think the fans would definitely enjoy that and to see where these characters are all these years later," he said.

For now, Metcalfe recently starred in an action comedy called Boris Is Dead and leads a Roku family-friendly romantic comedy called Summer Sparks, in which he plays a single father trying to connect with his son.

He said while it is "challenging" at times to maintain a work-life balance while in the film industry, it is "essential."

"I'm so busy at the moment that I really need to stay healthy, and obviously it's always a priority to look your best in the entertainment industry, so that's what I strive to do," he said.

For his Hint partnership, "the objective was to make water sexy and craveable," he said.

Metcalfe said the water brand helps him get in his daily dose of water because of how good it tastes. His favorite flavor is Georgia Peach.

"Hint just sort of folds pretty seamlessly into my lifestyle," he said. "I certainly have an emphasis on health and wellness, I follow a pretty strict diet."

Metcalfe shared that his wellness regimen includes his fitness routine and eating whole foods.

His skincare brand, Nutrl Skin, also factors in with its "hydrating and anti-aging" focus.

"Hint really works in parallel with my skincare line in keeping me hydrated, and that is the best way to maintain a youthful appearance," he said.
