George W. Bush has already decided what he’ll gift Michelle Obama ahead of attending the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in June. This revelation came in TODAY’s latest segment, which was led by Bush’s daughter, Jenna, who revealed that she won’t be present at the opening event. She revealed that her father’s present was in reference to a viral moment from 2018.

In a recent segment of TODAY, Jenna Bush Hager interviewed the former president, Barack Obama, about his center while disclosing what her father is about to gift the former first lady. During that time, Savannah Guthrie asked about George Bush’s attendance. Further referencing what present he would be giving on the occasion of the center’s opening.

Guthrie asks, “Is that the one where your dad’s bringing a case of Altoids?”  To this, Bush Hager replied, “Yeah, he’s ordered a case of Altoids, and he’ll be bringing that to Mrs. Obama.” Bush Hager further elaborated that this present is an allusion to her father. Obama’s viral moment from 2018 at the funeral of Sen. John McCain. She clarified that her father isn’t giving her the case of Altoids because she needs it.

Earlier in a conversation on TODAY, George W. Bush explained what exactly happened in the famous moment involving Altoid. He revealed that he sat next to Michelle Obama, as he always does, at the time of the funeral. He teased her and later handed her an Altoid. However, he didn’t give it as a joke but believed that she might need it.

“And I got in the car afterwards, and you said, ‘You’re trending, ‘I didn’t know what ‘trending’ meant,” he said to his daughter, Bush Hager. “It turns out the country is starved to see a White, center-right Republican and an African-American center-left Democrat having fun, and being able to converse, not as political figures, but as citizens,” he said of the world’s view of his friendship with Obama.
