Former WWE Women’s Champion Becky Lynch recently recalled an emotional moment. She revealed she feared telling Vince McMahon about her pregnancy.
Back in 2020, Lynch was WWE RAW Women’s Champion. She had held the title for over one year. Many expected Shayna Baszler to beat her at WrestleMania 36. Instead, Lynch announced her pregnancy weeks later. She then handed the championship over to Asuka.
WWE star Becky Lynch recalls Vince McMahon’s reaction
Speaking on the Happy Mum podcast, Lynch admitted she was scared before making the phone call. She worried her pregnancy would hurt women’s wrestling in WWE. “But I think the scariest of all was telling my boss, Vince McMahon. And I, like, called him, and I was, oh my God, I was terrified. I was terrified he was going to, you know.”
“I was this champion, and he had taken this chance on women main eventing and etc. And I was like, ‘Oh no, what if I’ve ruined it? What if I’ve ruined it for a generation of women?’ But then I was like, ‘But that’s also not fair.’ We should be able to do both. ‘Oh, oh, this is great for me, but now I’ve ruined women for life,’ you know? They’ll never be trusted again.”
Lynch said everything changed once she finally made the call. “And then I had to tell, ‘Vince, I’m pregnant.” “Oh my God, congratulations.’ Like, not a There wasn’t a beat. There wasn’t a gap. There wasn’t a silence. It was automatic.”

She said McMahon was genuinely happy for her and Seth Rollins. “He was like, ‘That’s the best news I’ve ever had. Oh my God, that’s amazing. You and Colby are both wonderful people. You’re going to make such great parents.’ It was, it was so lovely.”
Lynch tried explaining her work plan, but McMahon only shared her excitement. “And, like, I was, like, trying to tell him how I was going to work through it, and I had this whole plan, and I’m going to make. And, you know, I’m going to be there.”
“He didn’t care about any of it. He was just so delighted for us, which was wonderful and such a reassurance. And, because at the end of the day, WWE was a family company, you know? It was run by a family, and, and so, you know, I think he understood the importance of family, ‘cuz it’s the most important thing in the world.”
