Eagles to sign former Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue to practice squad

Jaydon Blue made our list of released players the Philadelphia Eagles should target, and the organization is now adding the former Dallas Cowboys running back to its practice squad. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that Blue is signing with Philadelphia after being released by Dallas during Sunday’s final roster cuts. The second-year running back cleared waivers, allowing him to negotiate with any team.
Dallas selected Blue in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft after he showcased his speed and receiving ability at Texas. His surprising release created an opportunity for the Eagles to add another developmental player with legitimate explosiveness. Blue rushed 23 times for 94 yards during the 2026 preseason, including 75 yards on 15 carries against the Arizona Cardinals. He also caught two passes for 15 yards and contributed as a kickoff returner.
The 5-foot-9, 198-pound running back gives Philadelphia a different skill set than the other backs on its practice squad. Dameon Pierce offers experience and power between the tackles, while Carson Steele brings physicality, receiving ability and special-teams value. Blue’s straight-line speed and ability to create chunk plays make him an intriguing developmental option.

Philadelphia kept Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley on the initial 53-man roster. Adding Blue gives the Eagles another potential call-up if injuries affect the active group during the season.
The move also allows Philadelphia to take a closer look at a young player Dallas once viewed as a potential complement to its starting backfield. Blue must improve his consistency, pass protection and special-teams value, but his athletic upside made him precisely the type of post-cutdown target the Eagles could afford to develop.
