Toronto-born rapper Drake was front and center throughout this World Series. He was proudly repping the Blue Jays as they faced off against the Dodgers, the team backed by his biggest rival, LA’s Kendrick Lamar. Drake, as he put it, was “World Series bound” and might’ve gotten ahead of himself. He trolled Shohei Ohtani on Instagram and celebrated the Dodgers’ loss before the final game had even played out. When it was all over and his beloved Blue Jays had taken the loss, he finally broke his silence.
“Congrats to the Jays for a dream season and a legendary World Series fight!!!” He wrote on Instagram. Supporting his Blue Jays’ squad, Drake attended both Game 6 and Game 7.
For the record, the entire trolling war was started by Drake, but perhaps Nike had the last laugh.
To celebrate the Dodgers’ World Series win, sportswear brand Nike rolled out ads congratulating the Dodgers and their players on the championship win.
Apparently, Nike couldn’t resist taking a not-so-subtle jab at the Toronto native and Blue Jays superfan. After all, he got to spend days trolling Dodgers players ahead of the World Series.
Nike’s 30-second short film, titled “LA Loves a Sequel,” was a clever nod to Hollywood. The ad congratulated the Dodgers in the style of movie ending credits, all set to Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up.”
And of course, that’s fitting if you think about it. Lamar, a proud Los Angeles native, spent most of 2024 locked in a fiery feud with Drake.
Interestingly, LeBron James, another Nike athlete, showed his support by reposting it to his Instagram story. He even added multiple fire emojis. Clearly, the entire sports world took notice of Nike’s bold move.
In the name of celebration, even Kike Hernández took a jab at Drake. Referring to Drake’s famous phrase “October’s very own,” Hernández teased him publicly.
In fact, after game 7, the Dodgers shared a wholesome picture of the players and staff in their “World Series Champions” shirts, captioned perfectly: “They still don’t like us.” This series really kept all of us on the edge of our seats from start to finish.
The Dodgers-Blue Jays game 7 reportedly became the most-watched baseball game since 2017
As reported by Sports Business Journal, Saturday’s Game 7 of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays drew an average of 25.5 million viewers on Fox. In fact, it spiked to 31.5 million during the late innings.
That makes it the most-watched baseball game since 2017’s Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros. That game drew an average of 28.3 million viewers.
And that’s not even counting Canada. According to Front Office Sports, an average of 10.9 million Canadians tuned in on Sportsnet. That’s nearly a quarter of the country’s 41 million people.
MLB’s 2025 World Series drew massive global attention, with record audiences reported across the U.S., Canada, and Japan — fueled by Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s star power. According to MLB, Game 1 alone averaged over 32 million viewers across those regions, underscoring baseball’s enduring worldwide appeal.
Notably, the Fox numbers are based on early data obtained by SBJ. It’s not the official Nielsen ratings. Game 7’s ratings easily topped last year’s World Series clincher, Game 5 between the Yankees and the Dodgers. That game drew 18.2 million viewers, far fewer than this year’s final.
This year’s Game 7 also easily outdrew the NBA Finals finale between the small-market Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Around 16.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the Thunder capture their first-ever NBA championship, well short of the World Series numbers.
