Grey's Anatomy gave Link (Chris Carmack) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) a beautiful wedding at the end of last season. That means they are paying for it in Season 22.

Link was seriously injured in the hospital explosion at the beginning of the season, and Jo's fate was left in the air at the end of Season 22 winter finale. She felt short of breath and went in for a routine checkup, only to find out her heart was failing and her twin babies needed an emergency C-section delivery.

The surgery is successful, even though there were hiccups. The babies were delivered and taken straight to the NICU, while Jo had a graft put into her heart. Hours after the surgery, Jo still hadn't woken up, and it wasn't clear if the graft had actually worked. To make matters worse, one of the babies was also showing signs of a weak heart and needed her own heart echo and emergency surgery.

Poor Link didn't know what to do with himself with three of his family members in critical condition. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben (Jason George) stepped up to look out for Jo, while Teddy (Kim Ravers) stepped in to help Link make decisions about the babies. Teddy got the short end of Link's temper when Baby B (Link is waiting for Jo to wake up to name them) needed to be sedated after her echo. But a chat with Richard (James Pickens Jr.) helped Link recenter himself, and he apologized.

Baby B made it through her surgery and was able to pee on her own by the end of the episode. So both babies are doing as well as can be expected for premature twins. And I won't keep you in suspense any longer: Jo's graft eventually started to work, and she opened her eyes at the end of the episode. She and the babies are not completely out of the woods yet, but you don't need to hold your breath over whether they are going to make it. Things are trending in the right direction going into the rest of the season, but we'll know the true score when Jo is actually able to talk in next week's episode. Let's hope she can avoid needing that heart transplant that Winston (Anthony Hill) warned could be the worst-case scenario.

So no one is at death's door anymore as we move forward, but there were some romantic hiccups in the winter premiere. Simone (Alexis Floyd) broke her no-sex pact with Jules (Adelaide Kane) by hooking up with Wes (Trevor Jackson) in the on-call room. Jules was on her way to break the pact herself with Winston, but instead found him flirting with one of the OR nurses at the bar. Neither of these hookups is a good idea, and even the failed one is going to lead to an even messier working environment. You'd think after so many years these doctors would learn to find hook-up partners outside of the hospital, but we get to keep eating up the drama as long as they don't learn their lesson.

The trainwreck continues as Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. Episodes are available to stream the next day on Hulu.
