Since it debut on April 12, 2005, *Deadliest Catch* has taken viewers inside what’s touted as the deadliest job on Earth: crab fishing in the Bering Sea. Jake, a Seattle-based captain, has been a part of the show since 2007.
In the season 22 premiere episode, Jake attempts to rebuild his career amid his split from Jenna. During a meeting with an attorney, he receives concerning news about his ownership stake in the Titan Explorer, a fishing vessel he captained.
"I don't want you investing any more money in your ownership interest in the Titan Explorer because that can end up being an asset that needs to be divided in the case," the lawyer tells him.
Jake decides to step in as captain of the Cornelia Marie, an iconic vessel formerly led by the late Phil Harris.
"It's a good boat. I've worked on it before," Jake recalls in the episode. "I was young, had just met Jenna, was getting yelled at all the time. Life was hard for me. I mean, there was a lot of things that were going on back then that I don't really wanna go back to, but one thing that was good was that I got to fish with Phil."
