Claire Foy, the British actress known for roles in high-profile projects like The Crown and First Man, revealed in a new interview that she gave up caffeine a few years ago after discovering that she had a parasite.
The actress was the guest on the newest episode of the podcast Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, and at the beginning of the episode, Foy stated that she doesn't have caffeine, leading to questions about when she cut it out.
Casually, Foy declared that she gave caffeine up "quite a few years ago," saying, "I had parasites, gross." She noted that she found out from a medical test, and shared more insight into the situation of how she discovered the parasite and where she thought she got it.
"I kept losing weight, and I didn't know what was going on," she explained, noting that this led her to go to the doctor and seek help.
After the parasite was discovered, Foy said that she likely had it for "at least five years," before adding, "They travel as a pair, I got told by the doctor." She believed that she got the parasite during a trip to Morocco.
"Gross, absolutely rank. It's disgusting," she concluded.
As for why this led her to cut out caffeine, she said, "I basically had to go on this diet, and because I didn’t want to take really hardcore antibiotics and stuff like that, I took all this little gross stuff, and part of that was giving up caffeine.”
After she recovered from the parasite, Foy decided to continue without caffeine, telling the podcast hosts, "Once you've given it up, it's such a mission to give it up, so I was like, while maybe I'll just give it a go of not."
The actress, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the hit Netflix series The Crown, said that before she cut caffeine out, "I drank at least 15 cups of tea a day, and then, like, I had my two coffees."

The Table Manners hosts, Jessie and Lennie Ware, teased Foy's appearance on the podcast the same day the new episode dropped, writing on social media, "Our next guest is an award winning actress, has played 2 queens, and may be seen wearing a crown. Any guesses?"
Along with her role in The Crown, Foy portrayed Anne Boleyn, one of the wives of King Henry VIII who was Queen of England between 1533 and 1536, in the show Wolf Hall.
Other guests on Table Manners include Bryan Cranston, Kate Hudson, Gloria Estefan, and more.
