Chiefs OL Trey Smith shares eagerness to block for Kenneth Walker III

Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith addressed the media on Thursday for phase 3 of OTAs. He shared his eagerness to block for newly signed running back Kenneth Walker III and re-establish the running game next season.

“Every single year we want to establish the run, we want to be great at runs, so that doesn’t change, but you know, definitely excited to work with K9, Kenneth (Walker),” Smith said. “He’s awesome, man. Another West Tennessee native, that’s cool. You know, one of those guys back there. I know he’s tough. It’s a pleasure, man. I’m really excited just to get going, get this offense progressing.”

Smith has emerged as one of the best offensive guards in the league, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections. He now has one of the top running backs in the NFL to block for in 2026.

“Yeah, just being a professional, man, just hungry to learn, learn our system, just wanting to be great, man,” Smith said. “I feel like he has an excellent job, phenomenal job of just going in there, going hard, wanting to be taught, willing to be coached. As I said, I’m really excited to block for him, you know, being a former (Super Bowl) MVP. Like, it’s a really cool thing to be able to have a running back like that.”

Last season with the Seattle Seahawks, Walker rushed for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns. He was also impactful in the passing game with 31 receptions for 282 yards.
