Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, marked the 29th anniversary of his sister’s death on Monday with a solemn post.

Charles, also known as Earl Spencer or 9th Earl Spencer, shared a photo of their family’s Althorp Estate with the flag at half-mast.

“31 August. My least favourite day,” he wrote.

Diana was just 36 when she died following a high-speed car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

The driver of the car, Henri Paul, as well as Diana’s boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed, also perished. Only bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones survived the crash.

Rees-Jones, who is still alive, had his face rebuilt based on photographs in a brutal, 11-hour surgery following the crash. He suffered from amnesia and had “very limited recall” of the crash itself.

Prince William was only 15 at the time of Diana’s passing, while Harry was just 12.

In addition to Diana, Earl Spencer has two other sisters: Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes. The Spencer siblings publicly reunited with William and Harry in 2021 to unveil a statue in Kensington Palace on what would’ve been Diana’s 60th birthday.

After the unveiling, Harry and William released a joint statement in honor of their mother, writing that “Every day, we wish she were still with us.”

Charles Spencer also recently announced that he will be publishing a book about the late royal, called “SWAN SONG: Diana, My Sister.”

“With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death on the skyline, I’ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister,” he wrote of the anniversary, which will occur on Aug. 31, 2027.

“This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time,” he said in a press release.

Earl Spencer explained that “The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral. As with my eulogy, I want to speak on Diana’s behalf and do so in an openly positive way.”
