Chappell Roan doesn't understand why some people were scandalized by the topless dress she wore on the red carpet at Sunday's Grammy Awards.

"Giggling because I don't even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit," she began a post on Tuesday. "The look's actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will. It's really fun and silly. Thank you for having me Grammys and those who voted for me."

The "Good Luck, Babe!" artist credited those she worked with on the look, including a sheer Mugler dress featuring faux nipple rings. Her back was also covered with a detailed fake tattoo, which was a reference to her ongoing Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Tour.

The songstress changed her wardrobe to a more covered-up dress before presenting the award for Best New Artist, which she took home in 2025. While Roan, 27, seemed to struggle to read the teleprompter at times, she eventually revealed that the winner was Olivia Dean.

She didn't take home her own award this year, though her song "The Subway" had been nominated for both Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year.

Roan's look was criticized by some, who deemed it tacky, but cheered by fans of her fearlessness.

She noted in a June conversation with SZA for *Interview Magazine *that backlash does tend to affect her. She does "give a f---" about negative feedback when she speaks her mind, said Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz.

"I didn't, until people started hating me for me and not for my art," she said. "When it's not about my art anymore, it's like, 'They hate me because I'm Kayleigh, not because they hate the songs that I make.' That's when it changed."

She continued, "I didn't realize I'd care so much. When it comes to my art, I'm like, ‘B----, you can think whatever you want. You are allowed to hate it with all your guts.' But when it comes to me and my personality, it's like, 'Damn. Am I the most insufferable b---- of our generation?'"

At least Roan has plenty of supporters, too, with her millions of followers, many of whom left kind words in the comments of her post.

They noted that her look was "not for the conservative grandmas," "iconic," and "absolute perfection."**
