The boys are officially back. Not only is BTS returning with their highly anticipated fifth studio album, ARIRANG (set to be released on March 20), but they’re also coming to Netflix with a brand new concert film and accompanying documentary.

In case you need a refresher on where they’ve been all these years, the K-pop boy band (consisting of members Jin, Jimin, V, Jungkook, RM, Suga, and J-Hope) had to complete mandatory South Korean military service, and they’ve been on a break since 2022. Although individual members have stayed active by releasing solo projects, they’re now finally back together as a group—and returning with a bang.

Here’s everything we know about the concert film and upcoming documentary.

Did the concert film come out?

BTS’s concert film, BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, released on March 21 at 7 A.M. ET on Netflix. The live performance was broadcast from Gwanghwamun in Seoul.

Wait—there’s a documentary, too?

There sure is! BTS will release a documentary on Netflix, BTS: The Return, on March 27. Directed by Bao Nguyen (The Greatest Night in Pop), the feature-length film will follow the making of their new album ARIRANG and offer a behind-the-scenes look at their long-awaited comeback.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Nguyen revealed that the documentary will see BTS having passionate discussions about the album, a process that allowed the group to be completely vulnerable while he filmed.

“You’ll see that there’s serious debates about the directions of certain songs and the direction of the album. For me as a filmmaker trying to show intimacy, like you can’t force it. You have to earn the trust of your participants and then they will kind of allow you into that world organically,” Nguyen told the outlet. “You can see in the vulnerability and sort of the intimacy of the conversations that they allowed us to cross that threshold in many ways. I think it shows that the band, even though they are a group, they are individuals with their own opinions and their own sort of taste. And I found that really important to depict because some people might think that they can't tell the difference, but everyone is so different. Everyone has such unique talents and opinions that it was really important to show that.”

Elsewhere in the documentary, BTS touched on their careers in the spotlight and reflected on what it might be like to still perform as they age.

“V talks about [how] things are changing around him, [but] has he changed at all? And then Suga talking about he doesn’t know whether he’s going to do this till he’s old, till he’s gray,” the filmmaker shared. “These just naturally came out while we were having these scenes in the car. I think it’s interesting to think the group is getting older and this is 2.0 in a way to them. They’re having this time to think about things as opposed to maybe when they're on tour or they’re just working all the time. But this moment, this return, really gave them this space to breathe and reflect.”

Has the trailer been released yet?

Yes—Netflix debuted the official trailer for the concert film on March 4. The preview offers an early glimpse of the group preparing for their return to the stage following their hiatus.

Netflix also released a new trailer for BTS: The Return on March 16, offering a more intimate look at the group’s reunion. In the footage, the members reflect on stepping back into the spotlight after years apart, acknowledging both the pressure and the uncertainty of returning to a fast-moving industry. “Trends shift every season. Standing still isn’t an option,” RM says. “And we’re trying to find out what makes us BTS.”

The teaser follows the group across recording sessions, travel, and rehearsals, capturing the emotional weight of their comeback along with their excitement to perform together again. “We are finally back where we’re meant to be,” Jimin adds.
