The Brazilian soccer community is mourning the death of a young prospect who died this week when his motorcycle collided with a cow while he was driving home for his father’s birthday.
Antony Ylano died early Monday morning after he hit the animal along a stretch of Avenida Francisco Raulino, BR-343, in central Piaui, Brazil, according to local newspaper Meio News. Ylano was 20.
The Altos, Brazil native’s death was confirmed by two of his former teams, as well as his girlfriend, on social media in the days following the accident.
"Today the world is different,” Ylano’s girlfriend Maria Clara wrote on Instagram, according to an English translation of the Portuguese post. "The sun has risen, but the light seems dimmer, as if even it misses you. Life took you from me so unexpectedly, and nothing has been the same since. You were, are, and always will be the love of my life.”
Clara added that her late boyfriend died with still “ so many dreams to fulfill” in his young life.
“And that's what hurts the most knowing that life didn't give you time to fulfill everything you wanted,” she wrote. “But even then, you left a beautiful legacy: your love, your affection, and the memories that will never die.”

Meio News reported that Ylano died at the scene of the crash, where first responders found him unresponsive after being called to the scene. The outlet published photographs of first responders gathered around a scene on a Brazilian street, as well as an image of a white cow with horns and blood stained on its coat.

The local newspaper reported that Ylano was one of the most promising players to come out of Altos in recent memory. The striker had won multiple state championships as a youth player and played for three different teams since becoming a professional, including the Fluminense Esporte Clube do Piauí, Associacao Atlética de Altos and Piauí Esporte Clube.
Ylano’s most recent team, Piaui Esporte Clube, shared an emotional tribute post on social media on Monday, hours after his death.
“The Piauí Sports Club experiences a moment of deep sorrow with the loss of striker Antony Ylano, a victim of an accident this morning,” the team wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of the athlete. The team announced it was cancelling all activities to allow Ylano’s teammates and coaches time to mourn his death.
The club shared a photo of its entire team Thursday as they held up Ylano’s jersey and a banner in his memory. “We miss you, but your strength will always be with us,” the soccer club wrote. “Today and always, Ylano.”
