Beyoncé gave fans a "special gift" on the Fourth of July.
The 44-year-old iconic performer unexpectedly released the track, Morning Dew (Donk), on Saturday, July 4. The track was a previously unreleased song from Beyoncé's B'Day. In a press release from Parkwood Entertainment, the release of the new song is to commemorate B'Day, which dropped 20 years ago on September 4, 2006, as well as a "direct nod to her loyal BeyHive to commemorate the upcoming epic celebration of B'Day."
This all comes as Beyoncé co-chaired the Met Gala in May, after last serving as an honorary chair in 2013.

An accompanying black-and-white lyric music video was also released, repurposing old footage and directed by Cliff Watts. Cliff is a frequent collaborator of the Cuff It performer and shot her for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover in 2007.
The surprise track was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, and was produced by her and Pharrell. The release also serves as a 60-day countdown to Beyoncé's next birthday and to the 20th-anniversary reissue of B'Day.

B'Day is Beyoncé's second studio album and includes hit songs such as Irreplaceable, Ring the Alarm, Déjà Vu (featuring Jay Z), and Get Me Bodied.
The sophomore album was the mother of three's second No. 1 album, with first week sales of 541,196 copies after its worldwide release.

B'Day also debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200 and repeated that ranking internationally, topping charts in Canada, Taiwan, and Japan's International Album Chart.
Morning Dew (Donk) is Beyoncé's latest single in two years. She released Cowboy Carter in March 2024, the second installment in her planned trilogy of albums. The country album won Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
Prior to Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé released Renaissance (2022), Act I, a dance, house, and electronic album. The trilogy of albums has been a celebration and a reclamation of the genres pioneered by Black artists.
Beyoncé has not shared what genre she will be taking on in Act III, but many fans believe it's Rock.
