The cracks in Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula’s marriage were boldly evident during the Summer House Season 10 premiere.
The couple, married for four years, announced their split ahead of the new Bravo season after months of speculation, and now viewers get a firsthand look at what may have been the final straw that led to their separation.
From journeying to the Hamptons in separate vehicles to witnessing Amanda ruminating about Kyle’s new job as a DJ, tensions from having entirely different lifestyles and goals quickly bubbled to the surface. A flashback scene before the summer reflects Amanda’s desire to get Kyle to stop going out and partying. Kyle “found a career where he goes out late and parties,” Amanda shares with Ciara Miller during the first episode. Amanda questions if she should be mad about his new career, to which Ciara responds, “No, I think you should be f—ing pissed about it.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Amanda also realizes that when she decided to launch her swimwear line, Kyle simultaneously pursued becoming a DJ “to spite me,” Amanda tells their friends once everyone was settled at the Hamptons house.
One big clue that Kyle and Amanda’s marriage was on shaky ground was when Amanda shared with everyone at dinner that after Kyle lost his wedding ring, she decided to stop wearing hers until he got a new one. “That’s OK, you guys can cosplay single,” Jesse Solomon jokes as everyone looks shocked.
Throughout the episode, Amanda is seen reflecting on her marriage, admitting she’s “numb” to rumors about her husband that used to trigger her. “It scares me,” she admits to Ciara. “I should’t feel that way.”
While friends like Carl Radke also express concerns that Kyle seems to be going down the wrong path with his DJing lifestyle, stress continues to mount between "Mr. and Mrs. Send It," as they are seen going to bed that night, frustrated with one another.
The next day, during the first party of the season, Kyle tells other party guests he's worried that he and Amanda are polar opposites, clearly projecting deep-rooted issues he has with his marriage. He also admits to Carl that he's only happy when he's "showing people a good time," as Amanda tells Ciara that she struggles seeing her husband out constantly. "I think something that's really tough for me is when the whole internet is rooting for our divorce," she admits.
After hearing nonstop breakup rumors, Amanda says she's not sure if maybe she should be listening. The pressure cooker situation reaches a fever pitch when Amanda joins several others in the pool, jumping in wearing only her underwear. As she emerges from the water, Kyle is standing there, annoyed and ready to argue—and this is only the first episode.
Bravo’s Summer House Season 10 airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. New episodes will stream the next day on Peacock.
